Star student Kiera’s job
BEAUTY therapist Kiera Scott from Arabella near Tain is getting her career off to a wonderful start - with a month-long
placement at Cap Maison, a five-star hotel and spa resort on the Caribbean island of St Lucia.
That is her prize for being overall Student of the Year 2011 at the Mary Reid International Spa Academy in Edinburgh. The ceremony in the capital's
George Hotel was a happy occasion for Kiera (18) and her parents, Maggie and Charlie Scott of Shepherd's Cottage, Arabella, who suffered a family
tragedy three years ago when Kiera's sister Marni was killed in a road accident. "Obvouisly Kiera has worked extremely hard over the last year. We are
both so very proud of her," Maggie said. "She went away to Edinburgh on her own at 17 after losing her sister, and to have done so well is a great achievement."
Said Kiera, "It has been a fantastic year and I have met some amazing people, I am truly honoured to have received these awards."
Brian Hunter, owner and principal of the Academy, said, "The Student of the Year award is for appearance, attitude and attendance as well as consistently
wonderful marks in her exams throughout the year. She has done so well in virtually everything. The international examiner from Cidesco - the best qualification you can
get in the industry worldwide - said Kiera was very gifted, and that doesn't happen very often. She has done a remarkable job, and she's always got a smile on
her face." Along with the award comes a one-month placement at the luxury Cap Maison resort, where Kiera will work in the
spa. "It's a wonderful opportunity for her," said Mr Hunter."She has a great future ahead of her. Some of the work she produced during the year
included a 3,000-word thesis dedicated to her sister. It was quite emotional to read."
